Apart from the well known tourist Island of Koh Samet the beaches of Rayong province are relatively undiscovered by tourists although they are popular with Thai people. The area is just 2hrs 15mins drive from Bangkok airport and the two main beaches of the area are Suan Son beach which is 15 kilometres long and Laem Mae Phim beach which is 10 kilometres long. The two beaches are seperated by a headland known as Wang Kaew. Wang Kaew is a private estate of 140 hectares (350 acres). Consisting mainly of forest it has four small private beaches, three small apartment blocks and a number of villas which are rented out to visitors. The entrance to the estate is controlled by security guards on a 24 hour basis. Because of the quiet and the beauty of the area the Wang Kaew estate is popular with film companies recording programmes for Thai television.
